Napa Design Partners led the interior renovation of the Fairfield Inn by Marriott in Sacramento, California, delivering a comprehensive hospitality upgrade aligned with Marriott’s latest “Modern Calm” design standards.

Located in close proximity to Cal Expo, the hotel experiences consistently high guest turnover driven by year-round events, conventions, and exhibitions. This operational reality made it essential that the property remain fully functional throughout construction, requiring careful phasing, coordination, and sensitivity to daily hotel operations.

Brand-Driven Hospitality Design

The three-level hotel, comprising 70+ guestrooms, underwent targeted renovations to its lobby and guest check-in areas, breakfast and dining spaces, fitness center, conference room, and shared common areas. The design approach focused on clarity, comfort, and durability—key attributes of Marriott’s Modern Calm standards—while ensuring the spaces could withstand frequent use associated with event-driven occupancy.

Napa Design Partners worked in close coordination with Marriott’s design and brand review teams, ensuring all interiors met current Fairfield Inn standards. Brand approvals were secured prior to construction documentation and submission to the City of Sacramento, minimizing disruptions during permitting and construction.

Operational Continuity During Construction

Given the hotel’s location near Cal Expo and its role in supporting major regional events, maintaining uninterrupted operations was a critical project requirement. Napa Design Partners collaborated closely with the ownership team and consultants to:
