Year 2019
Napa Design Partners, as the Architect of Record, rehabilitated the historic Borreo Building for the owners and the original tenant, Stone Brewing. The firm’s scope of work included assessment and evaluation, historic preservation, exterior and interior design, preparation of construction documents (PSE), and construction-phase assistance.
The building sits at one of the most prominent entrances to downtown Napa along the Napa River and is visible from many vantage points. The restoration effort considered not only how the building would be viewed, but also how the building itself would engage with the city. New large openings were introduced along a previously blank wall, creating visual and physical connections to the Napa River and downtown. The exterior site design provides usable outdoor areas and an inviting environment for guests.
The interior design incorporated the building’s rustic character while accommodating the modern requirements of the new brewpub tenant. The brewing area, food preparation, and service spaces are located on the ground level, while a large central bar with open dining and lounge areas occupies the second floor.
Stone Brewing vacated the space during the pandemic, and NDP was subsequently hired by the Constellation Group to remodel the interior for Arch & Tower, a Robert Mondavi wine‑tasting venue, completed in 2024.
